September is an action-packed month at the UA. Before you leave for your Labor Day weekend vacation, take a look at some of the fun and exciting events happening this month.

Celebrate a century of anthropology at the UA with UA Anthropology's 100th birthday on Sept. 15. Also this month, the Arizona Insect Festival returns to the Student Union Memorial Center and the Arizona Repertory Theatre kicks off its season with "Barefoot in the Park." Are you ready for some football? The Cats take the field for the season's home opener on Sept. 3.

Arizona Football vs. UTSA (Home) | Sept. 3

Join head coach Rich Rodriguez and the rest of the team at the football season home opener at Arizona Stadium. The Wildcats will be looking to outrace the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners. For tickets, call 626-2287 or click here. Library Open House | Sept. 9

Did you know that there's a 3-D printer available for your use at the Main Library, or that each academic discipline has an assigned librarian? Learn about these resources and more at a library open house. Experts will be on hand to discuss a variety of topics, such as data management, copyright, repository services and curriculum design. Stop by the Main Library from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to discover all of the services offered by University Libraries.

Mesquite Pod and Prickly Pear Party | Sept. 12

They're juicy and sweet, but be careful not to prick yourself! If you never have tasted prickly pears – the red fruits of the prickly pear cactus – now is your chance. Stop by the UA's Cooper Center for Environmental Learning to extract prickly pear juice, grind mesquite pods into flour and learn how to harvest these cooking ingredients straight from the desert.

UA Anthropology's 100th Birthday | Sept. 15

On Sept. 15, 1915, the first classes were held at the UA's Department of Archaeology. Fast-forward to today, and the UA is one of the nation's top institutions for anthropological studies. Within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the School of Anthropology is home to anthropologists who study all aspects of human life, from the Earth's first humans to those living across the world today. Learn about some of the school's accomplishments at this centennial birthday bash and reception.

Arizona Insect Festival | Sept. 20

They're creepy, crawly and a lot of fun to learn about. Come to the Student Union Memorial Center Grand Ballroom for the fifth annual Arizona Insect Festival. During the event, peruse interactive exhibits, learn about research being done by UA entomologists and get up close and personal with some new insect friends. The free event is the perfect family-friendly outing to introduce children to the exciting world of insects.

Performance – 'Barefoot in the Park' | Sept. 20-Oct. 11

The UA's Arizona Repertory Theatre will kick off its new season with the Broadway hit "Barefoot in the Park." In this romantic comedy, free-spirited Corie and conservative lawyer Paul are two happy newlyweds who are met with a series of unfortunate circumstances shortly after their honeymoon. Will their mismatched temperaments lead to the end of their marriage? "Barefoot in the Park" premieres Sept. 20 in the Marroney Theatre. For tickets, click here.
