Innovation is key to the UA's mission as a super land-grant University, and it's also one of the four major focus areas of the University's Never Settle strategic academic and business plan.

In the spring, the UA welcomed a new senior vice president for research, Kimberly Espy, who is helping the UA to realize ambitious goals, including doubling research expenditures from $600 million to $1.2 billion by 2023.

A neuroscientist, Espy leads the University's Office of Research & Discovery, formerly known as the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research. She came to Tucson from the University of Oregon, where she served as vice president for research and innovation and dean of the Graduate School.

For Espy, joining the UA was like coming home; she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the UA College of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics in 1996.

In this video, Espy talks about the value of University research and the UA's progress and direction under the Never Settle plan.

This is the first in a series of videos intended to highlight the UA's progress on Never Settle and some of the campus leaders who are playing an integral role in helping the University to realize its strategic goals.
