Happening in December
With the fall semester winding down and the holiday season upon us, it's almost time to say hello to 2014. Before you do, make sure to squeeze in time to check out some of the exciting events happening in December.
Looking for the perfect holiday gift? The Arizona Historical Society [1] and the University of Arizona Cancer Center [2] will be hosting holiday events with plenty of gifts for sale. Want to know what the New Year has in store for your wallet? University economists will forecast the economy's future during an outlook luncheon. And if you're a movie buff, grab some popcorn because the School of Theatre, Film & Television [3] will be showcasing student documentaries in its "What's Up, Docs?" film series.

Arizona Historical Society's Holiday Festival [5] | Dec. 7
Kick off the holiday season with this family-friendly event. Performers include Tucson Junior Strings [6] and the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus [7]. Check out a magic show or storytelling from the Arizona Historical Society Docent Council [8]. There also will be crafts available for purchase and a raffle for the chance to win various gift cards and prizes.
Economic Outlook Luncheon [9] | Dec. 13
What will the New Year bring for Arizona's economy? UA economists will share their 2014 predictions regarding the future of job opportunities, monetary policies, the global economy and more. The luncheon discussion is hosted by the Eller College of Management [10] and will take place at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa [11], 3800 E. Sunrise Dr.
Arizona Cancer Center Holiday Craft Show [12] | Dec. 13
Get your gift list ready for the UA Cancer Center's fifth annual Holiday Craft Show. The event will feature pottery, jewelry, silk scarves and other handmade items. Stop by the first-floor lobby of the Sydney E. Salmon Building [13] from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. to peruse the crafts for sale. Sales benefit the Arizona Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund [14].
Creative Collaborations – "Testament: The AIDS Quilt Songbook Revisited" [15] | Dec. 14
Sponsored by the Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry [16], the Creative Collaborations series offers a combination of lectures and musical performances. On Dec. 14, "Testament: The AIDS Quilt Songbook Revisited" will feature performances of songs composed in the 1980s, as well as a few new tunes, in honor of those lost to AIDS. People living with AIDS will share their stories of survival during the event, in honor of World AIDS Day.
Films - "What's Up, Docs?" Presented by the School of Theatre, Film and Television [17] | Dec. 18
Each fall, the School of Theatre, Film and Television gives its students the opportunity to show off their short documentary films through the "What's Up, Docs?" series [18]. This year's crop of films range from funny to touching to politically charged. The screenings are free and begin at 7 p.m. at The Loft Cinema [19], 3233 E. Speedway Blvd.
Fall Commencement [20] | Dec. 21
Dec. 11 marks the last day of classes, and on Dec. 21 you're invited to celebrate the graduation of undergraduate, master's and doctoral students during a ceremony at McKale Memorial Center, starting at 9 a.m. Click here [21] for a full list of college convocations.
