New Grace Period for Changed NetID Passwords

University Information Technology Services (UITS)
June 25, 2014

On June 27, University Information Technology Services (UITS) will introduce a new grace period allowing NetID account holders who change their passwords additional time to update all their devices with the new password.

Currently, when NetID account holders change their passwords, another device such as a smartphone or tablet that is set up to automatically log in to campus services often attempts to log in with the old password before the new one is entered. Repeated login attempts with an incorrect password will lock out the account because the system assumes it is a malicious attempt to breach the system. UITS is now giving NetID account holders extra time to update computers and mobile devices with their new password.

CHANGING YOUR NETID PASSWORD

To change your NetID Password, visit the Change NetID Password page and create a new password: https://netid.arizona.edu/chgid_pw.php

Remember to change your password on every system or device that automatically logs in to campus services, such as email, UAWiFi, calendar and contacts, etc. You will not be able to access those services until your password is updated.

If attempts to log in with the old password are made, you will receive an email notification the morning after the password change to assist you with identifying any computers or devices that still need to be updated. Ask your IT support staff or the 24/7 IT Support Center (520-626-8324) for assistance.

  • If your other devices or computers are powered off or asleep during this period, they will not be detected as having made any attempts. Please remember to update the password on all devices that automatically access University services.

Two days after that, your password grace period will expire. Repeated attempts by a computer or mobile device to use the old password will result in the NetID account being locked out.

SUPPORT

If your NetID account is locked out, you need any other assistance with your NetID account, or if you have any questions, contact the 24/7 IT Support Center: (520) 626-TECH (8324).
