Physics Open Day: Saturday, March 15
In keeping with annual tradition, the UA Physics Department opens its doors to the public on Saturday, March 15 (the first day of the Tucson Festival of Books). The program includes lab tours showcasing research from atom electronics to bacterial disease, culminating in a public lecture by Andre Bormanis, UA physics alumnus and Science Consultant for the "Star Trek" and the new "Cosmos" TV series.
Four research labs will give 30-minute public tours:
(1) "Electronics with a Single Atom" at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
(2) "Predicting the Weather of the Future" at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
(3) "Fighting Bacterial Disease with Physics" at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
(4) "Blasting Atoms with Photon Torpedoes" at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
