  • All Financial Services Offices will be closed for a staff appreciation event on Tuesday, May 7th, 2013, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • The Honest Leadership and Open Government Act (HLOGA) requires the University of Arizona Office of Federal Relations to report the lobbying activities of the UA and University employees on a quarterly basis.

  • I am pleased to announce that a university-wide salary adjustment pool of $9.1 million has been established to fund performance-based salary increases for benefits-eligible faculty and staff funded on state and locally allocated budgets effective July 1, 2013.

  • The 3D memo system has been replaced with UAnnounce, which is managed by the Office of University Communications.

  • Faculty leaders and campus administrators have initiated a series of forums to discuss proposed revisions of our promotion and tenure criteria.

  • In order to meet the demands of campus growth, reduce traffic congestion, and maintain a high level of service some changes need to occur with respect to parking programs, permit sign-up process and our price structure. The changes that will affect the 2013-2014 permit year are outlined below.

  • To achieve the policy and objective of providing a drug free environment for all University students and employees, the University prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of a controlled substance on its property or as part of any of its activities.

  • The threat of across-the-board automatic Federal funding cuts known as “sequestration” raises a serious threat to the research enterprise at UA, and indeed at universities across the country.

  • The Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) has announced new contribution rates for the Defined Benefit Plan for fiscal year 2013/2014.  The new rates are effective July 1, 2013.

  • I am reorganizing the Executive Office of the President at the UA to focus efforts more directly on strategic action and implementation to assure that we do not waver in our execution of change and development.

  • Currently, many investigators do not submit their proposals by the 3-day-in-advance deadline. Sponsored Projects Services can no longer process those late proposals and now will begin strict enforcement of the deadline policy without exception.

  • As part of the University’s commitment in encouraging appropriate academic travel to Mexico to advance these relationships, a revised procedure to expedite travel approvals for parts of Mexico is being implemented.

  • A new interim policy has been adopted and is now in effect for international travel. The interim policy is applicable to all University of Arizona faculty, staff, students and volunteers who travel internationally for a University purpose, including business, research, education, service, and contracted activities.

  • Stores will implement a new procedure for processing Stores Blanket transactions effective October 1, 2012. A Merchandise Order Form will no longer be required for purchases made through a Stores Blanket Vendor. Stores will no longer charge a 2% processing fee.

  • The distribution of paychecks to employees, for pay period ending December 23, 2012, is scheduled for Friday, December 21, 2012. If paychecks are not picked up by 12:00 pm on Friday, December 21, 2012, they must be mailed by the department to the employee's home address.

  • University policy allows a maximum of one and one-half times the number of vacation hours earned in a given year to be carried forward. At the start of each calendar year, any vacation in excess of this amount is forfeited.   • I am pleased to announce that after much campus and constituency consultation Christian (Chris) Schreiber has been selected to be the University Information Security Officer effective December 3, 2012. He replaces Cathy Bates, who served as the University ISO from June 2010 through August 2012.

  • The Information Security Office has been working with campus stakeholders to update several of our standards and guidelines so that they include appropriate HIPAA Security Rule requirements, as well as other compliance program requirements. These documents have been vetted by stakeholders, and approved by the Information Security Advisory Committee.
