Nearly 300 retirees, representing a collective 6,300 years of service, will be celebrated Thursday as they mark the end of their UA careers.

Allison Vaillancourt, vice president for business affairs and human resources, will serve as the emcee for the event, which will honor 270 retirees from across the University. Guy Atchley, a longtime local news anchor who retired from television station KGUN last year, will give the keynote address. Fidelity Investments and TIAA are co-sponsoring the dinner.

Several of the retirees have been at the UA for 40 years or longer. They include:

  • Betty Albert, Senior Program Coordinator in the Center for the Management of Information in the Eller College of Management, 40 years
  • Susan Brew, Program Manager for the Arizona Space Grant Consortium in the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, 44 years
  • Alberta Charney, Research Specialist in the Economic and Business Research Center in the Eller College of Management, 42 years
  • Alexander Dunkel, Professor in the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies, 46 years
  • Lawrence Evers, Professor in the Department of English, 45 years
  • Renee Griggs, Study Abroad Associate Director and Student Services Coordinator in UA Global, 42 years
  • David Herr-Cardillo, Athletic Director in the Disability Resource Center, 40 years
  • David Johnson, Professor in the Department of Medicine, 41 years
  • Randall Richardson, Professor in the Department of Geosciences, 41 years
  • Ellen Shenkarow, Senior Instructor in the Center for English as a Second Language, 41 years
  • Richard Sobonya, Professor in the Department of Pathology, 42 years
  • Patricia Sousa, Special Assistant to the Dean in the Eller College of Management, 43 years
  • Mercy Valente, Administrative Secretary in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, 42 years

Retirees will receive a hand-blown glass hummingbird feeder created by Fire Ranch Glassworks.

Employees with retirement dates after May 3 will be invited to next year's ceremony.
