Professor Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Professor Emeritus Barbara Atwood, professor of practice and limited term adjunct lecturer of law, received the Foundation for Family Justice Peter Economidis Lifetime Achievement Award. She was honored in recognition of her work and contributions in the field of family law in Southern Arizona. Atwood is the fourth recipient of the award and is the only law school faculty member to be honored. A reception was held in March for Atwood and the proceeds were donated to Southern Arizona Legal Aid.
Tribal Relations AVP Receives Dr. Henrietta Mann Leadership Award
Karen Francis-Begay, assistant vice president of tribal relations, was selected to receive the Dr. Henrietta Mann Leadership Award, which was presented at the Native American Student Advocacy Institute conference in New Mexico this month. The award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to Native students. Francis-Begay's primary role is to serve as a key representative and liaison between tribal leaders and the University in efforts to strengthen partnerships and advance mutual goals.
Arizona Telemedicine Program Honored With Digital Health Award
The Arizona Telemedicine Program was recognized by AZ Business Magazine for Outstanding Achievement in Digital Health. Ronald Weinstein, founding director of the Arizona Telemedicine Program, accepted the award at the 10th annual Healthcare Leadership Awards celebration in May. The Arizona Telemedicine Program, founded in 1996, was recognized as a "true pioneer in bringing telemedicine into the mainstream" by the magazine.
Banner – UMC South Recognized for Top Performance
Banner – University Medical Center South won the Banner Health "Best of the Best" award for mid-sized hospitals for high performance in customer service, operations, learning and finances. Banner – UMC South is a 245-bed acute-care hospital operated by Banner Health under a management contract with Pima County. The award was given at Banner Health's annual conference for its leaders in May.
Yves Lussier Honored With Ambassador Award
Yves Lussier, associate vice president for data science and chief knowledge officer at UAHS, director of the UAHS Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics, and professor of medicine, was recently awarded by his alma mater, the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec City, with the title of Ambassador for Health Sciences. He was chosen for his team's work in precision medicine and information technology solutions for the health care sector. Lussier was one of 10 alumni who received the honor.
