Ceremony Will Honor UA's Most Distinguished Professors
The University's newest Regents' Professors, University Distinguished Professors and University Distinguished Outreach Faculty will be honored at an induction ceremony tomorrow.
"All seven of these faculty are incredible members of the UA community, and we are fortunate to have their leadership," President Ann Weaver Hart said in a letter to the campus community. "This is a wonderful way to start 2017, and I hope many of you are able to help celebrate these amazing scholars and teachers."
The annual ceremony includes compelling videos about each honoree, illustrating their work and accomplishments while also providing a glimpse into their lives outside academia.
"This ceremony is one of the great pleasures of the academic year," said Provost Andrew Comrie. "I am always impressed with the scholarly caliber of our colleagues receiving the honor, and I find myself marveling at the full personal and professional lives they lead beyond the regular roles in which we typically see them. It’s hard not to leave the induction ceremony brimming with pride about the quality and achievements of our faculty members."
The title of Regents' Professor is the highest level of recognition given to faculty in the Arizona State university system and is reserved for full professors whose work has received national and international recognition.
The title of University Distinguished Professor is given to faculty who have demonstrated throughout their careers that they have made a difference in student lives through personal commitment, mentored a broad range of undergraduate students, and fostered an attitude of critical inquiry, encouraging students to question assumptions, challenge conventional wisdom and to scrutinize evidence carefully.
The title of University Distinguished Outreach Faculty recognizes faculty who have made outstanding contributions to outreach at the UA, and in the state of Arizona and the nation.
