CSW Accepting Nominations for Vision Awards

The University of Arizona Commission on the Status Women is now accepting nominations for the 2008 CSW Vision Awards, which honor unit leaders and managers who have demonstrated a commitment to creating a campus community that embraces the full participation and achievement of women and other underrepresented groups.
"It's a way to honor leaders at the university who work with people. We're looking for managers who create a diverse, nurturing and inclusive environment for their employees. The managers can be staff members, appointed professionals or faculty members who supervise significant numbers of people," said Linda Breci, the chair of the Commission on the Status of Women and the associate director of proteomics in the department of chemistry.
This is the 10th year that the commission has presented the award, which is given to up to three people each year.
University staff, faculty, administrators, graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to nominate individuals who are known for cultivating diversity and working to advance the commission's goals. Three performance areas to describe in the nomination are: Campus Climate, Professional Development, and Compensation and Equity. Current UA employees with the title of dean, department head, director, chair, and those in positions with significant personnel oversight responsibilities are eligible for nomination. Personnel in classified staff positions may well be suitable for consideration.
The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on Oct. 13. Complete information and nomination materials can be obtained on line at www.csw.arizona.edu or by contacting the Diversity Resource Office at 626-5502.
The awards will be conferred on Nov. 6 during the Intersections Conference, which is hosted by the Commission on the Status of Women.
