Employees Asked to Encourage Participation in Student Survey
University faculty and staff are being asked for help in encouraging students to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement, which collects information from undergraduates about their college experience.
"NSSE results can provide you with a wealth of data to inform accreditation self-studies, benchmarking efforts, faculty and staff development programs, strategic plans, improvement initiatives, recruitment materials, student support initiatives, and more," Gail D. Burd, senior vice provost for academic affairs, said.
Several hundred four-year colleges and universities nationwide participate in the survey, which asks freshmen and seniors about their participation in programs and activities provided for their learning and personal development.
"The results provide an understanding of how undergraduate students spend their time and what they gain from attending college," Burd said.
They also help the University identify ways to better support student success, she said.
Specifically, the survey gauges students’ perceptions related to the following engagement indicators:
- Academic challenge
- Learning with peers
- Experiences with faculty
- Campus environment
The UA has participated in the survey every three years since 2006. Summaries of findings from previous years are available here.
"One of the major areas that our students appreciated in the last review – when compared with our peer institutions – was the support they get from their advisers," Burd said.
All survey respondents will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a $100 gift card to UA BookStores. Students who respond to the survey by April 10 will receive a coupon for 20 percent off at UA BookStores.
