Don't let the heat fool you – summer is over. Students have returned, and so has the campus's familiar fall bustle. This also means the UA Master Calendar is chock-full of things to do and see.

Happenings in September include a screening of a new PBS documentary, a chance to meet the Cat in the Hat, the home opener for Arizona football, and a workshop series for parents of teenagers. Also this month: Learn when your UA videos need captions, hear a talk about one woman's life on the U.S.-Mexico border, freshen up your culinary skills, and catch a play by the Arizona Repertory Theatre.

To see what else is going on at the UA in August, check out the Master Calendar, which is open to submissions from employees and students who want to promote University-sponsored events or events happening on campus or in UA facilities. Add your event using the calendar's submission form.

AZPM Screening: Ken Burns' 'Country Music' at The Loft Cinema | Sept. 3

Arizona Public Media and country music radio station KIIM invite the public to preview the new PBS special "Country Music," the latest documentary series by renowned filmmaker Ken Burns.

The 16-hour series, which will debut on PBS on Sept. 15, explores the history of this American art form and how it evolved in the 20th century. The series includes previously unreleased images and footage, and interviews with more than 80 country music artists.

The preview will be screened at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd., at 6 p.m. The event is free, but RSVPs are required.

Storytime With Cat in the Hat | Sept. 7

Dr. Seuss' the Cat in the Hat will make a stop at the UA BookStore at the Student Union Memorial Center to make art, read books and sing songs as part of the BookStore's Storytime youth program. While he's there, he'll also reveal "Horse Museum," a previously unpublished book by the acclaimed children's author.

There will be opportunities to take photos with the Cat in the Hat, and your favorite Dr. Seuss books will be on sale – buy two, get one free.

The free event is geared toward children ages 2-6. Parking is available for $2 an hour in the Second Street Garage, and for free in Highland Avenue, Main Gate, Park Avenue, Cherry Avenue and Tyndall Avenue garages.

Arizona Football | Sept. 7, 14 and 28

Arizona will play its home opener on Sept. 7 against Northern Arizona. They'll take on Texas Tech a week later, and then UCLA on Sept. 28. The Wildcats opened their season Saturday, playing in Honolulu against Hawaii.

The home opener against Northern Arizona will include a tribute to former head football coach Dick Tomey, who won more football games than any other coach in UA history. Tomey died in May at the age of 80.

UA faculty and staff can get a 15% discount on football season tickets. Visit the Arizona Athletics website for more information.
