This year's Summer Engineering Academy will include five in-person "Days at SEA."

Summer is inching closer but have no fear: The University and Tucson communities are again offering a mix of virtual and in-person camps to keep your children engaged and entertained. This year's offerings include toxicology, engineering and writing camps, plus a weeklong trip to the mountains.

Some camps are still finalizing plans and will release information later. For the most up-to-date information about any particular camp, please visit the camp's website.

Arizona 4-H Summit 2022: One Health

Arizona 4-H Summit provides teens ages 14-18 an opportunity to explore what they are passionate about and learn how to take the next steps toward creating a future around that passion. The camp is an opportunity for Arizona 4-H teens to build problem-solving skills, practice putting ideas into action and explore future careers.

Application deadline: May 8
Dates: June 4-8
Cost: $150 (Scholarships are available to 4-H members. Contact your county extension office for more information.)

Arizona Arabic Jumpstart

The Arizona Arabic Jumpstart program is an intensive language course for high school juniors and seniors as well as incoming University of Arizona first-year students. The program includes a diverse range of activities that boosts students' knowledge of the Arabic language and Arab cultures.

Application deadline: May 3
Dates: Session 1: June 6-July 7; Session 2: July 11-Aug. 10
Cost: Free for graduating high school seniors joining the University of Arizona as first-year students in fall 2022 who have been accepted into the Arizona Arabic Flagship program. They also receive a stipend for housing, meals, travel and books over the summer and additional scholarship funds during the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters. Otherwise, $600/session. Rising high school juniors and seniors who are selected for the program can receive a large tuition discount and may apply for scholarships to cover the remaining cost.

Jedd Fisch Football Camps

Coach Jedd Fisch and the Arizona football team are holding one-day football camps for students of all ages. The WOW Youth and Junior High Camp are open to students entering first through eighth grades. The high school camps and Monday Night Lights 7-on-7 and offensive line/defensive line camps are open to students entering ninth grade and above.

Application deadline: Monday Night Lights camps are open until slots are filled. The high school and youth camps have no registration deadline, with walk-up registration available on the day of the camps.
Dates: Youth camps: June 8 and 15; High school camps: June 5 and 12; Monday Night Lights: June 6 and 13.
Cost: $45 for high school camps, $60 for youth camps, $30 for individual Monday Night Lights offensive line/defensive line camp. Various team rates are available for offensive line/defensive line and 7-on-7 camps.

JOLT 2022: Unlock Your Future

Journey of Opportunities for Leaders of Tomorrow, or JOLT, is for Arizona 4-H teens ages 14-18. Young leaders from around the state gather at the Harold & Mitzie James 4-H Camp & Outdoor Learning Center to develop life skills, meet new friends and make new memories.

Application deadline: June 12
Dates: July 11-15
Cost: $250 (Scholarships are available to 4-H members. Contact your county extension office for more information.)

Journalism Diversity Workshop

The Donald W. Carson Journalism Diversity Workshop is a high school summer program held on the University of Arizona campus. Arizona high school students learn about reporting, photography, multimedia and media ethics from seasoned journalists and professors. Students live on campus in dorms and work together to produce stories and photos for The Chronicle newspaper, websites and multimedia projects. Applications should include a 300- to 400-word essay explaining why the applicant is interested in journalism, one letter of recommendation and two samples of the student's work (articles, media, videos, photos).

Dates: Tentatively set for June 5-11
Cost: Free for selected students

Korean Summer Camp

The Critical Languages Program is partnering with the Department of East Asian Studies to offer this five-day online camp, which gives students in sixth through 12th grade the opportunity to learn about Korea's culture and language. Students will be introduced to the Korean alphabet and Korean culture.

Application deadline: May 2. Campers who register later will have a higher fee.
Dates: Online, June 6-10, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Cost: $100 if registered by May 2, $125 if registered after May 2.

Summer Engineering Academy

Students who have completed ninth, 10th, 11th or 12th grade (graduated seniors) can attend the Summer Engineering Academy camps, which will be held virtually. There are four bundles around the themes of sustainability, health, security and joy of living. In order to attend, students need internet access and a laptop or computer with camera and microphone capabilities. The camps will be held on Zoom, which is free for students and families to download and use. This year's camp will also include five in-person "Days at SEA" with different themes.

Application deadline: May 16
Dates: Online: June 13-July 20, depending on bundle. In person "Days at SEA," June 17, 24 and 27 and July 14 and 15.
Cost: $150 for each virtual camp, $50 for each "Day at SEA."

*Toxic Detectives

In this weeklong camp, students entering sixth through eighth grade will immerse themselves in the field of toxicology and local environmental health issues through hands-on science activities, research laboratory tours and presentations. The camp takes place at the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy, in Roy P. Drachman Hall. While the camp predominantly takes place in a classroom, campers will take field trips for lab visits and outdoor activities on campus.

Application deadline: Open until slots are filled.
Dates: June 20-24
Cost: $225. University employees receive a 25% discount. Other financial aid is available.

Young Writers Institute

This camp, offered by the Writing Skills Improvement Program, supports high school students in their development of reading, writing and critical thinking skills. The program introduces students entering ninth through 12th grade to resources available at the University and includes field trips to museums, libraries and other centers around campus.

Dates: July 5-22
Cost: $275
