More Than a Thousand Employees Celebrate Milestones Up to 45 Years

More than 1,000 employees will be honored for reaching employment milestones at the annual Service Awards ceremony.
More than 1,000 employees will be honored for reaching employment milestones at the annual Service Awards ceremony.

More than 1,000 UA employees will be honored for reaching service milestones of up to 45 years at the annual Service Awards ceremony this Thursday.

The ceremony will recognize 1,031 employees who have reached work anniversaries of 10, 15, 25, 30, 35, 40 or – this year's longest – 45 years. The event runs from 2-4 p.m. in the Student Union Memorial Center, Grand Ballroom. Check-in begins at 1:30 p.m., and doors open at 1:45 p.m.

Honorees this year include:

  • Neal Armstrong, Regents' Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Optical Sciences and associate vice president for research – 40-year award
  • William David Arnett, Regents' Professor Emeritus of Astronomy – 30-year award
  • Jennifer Barton, Director of the BIO5 Institute – 20-year award
  • Eric Betterton, University Distinguished Professor and head of the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences – 30-year award
  • Thomas Bever, Regents' Professor of Linguistics – 20-year award
  • Melody Buckner, Interim Dean, UA South – 10-year award
  • Melinda Burke, Vice President of Alumni Relations – 25-year award
  • Andrew Carnie, Dean of the Graduate College – 20-year award
  • Peder Cuneo, University Distinguished Outreach Faculty in the Department of Animal and Biomedical Sciences – 30-year award
  • Paulo Goes, Dean of the Eller College of Management – 10-year award
  • Jack Jokipii, Regents' Professor Emeritus of Planetary Sciences and Astronomy – 45-year award
  • John Paul Jones III, Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences – 15-year award
  • Frederick Kiefer, University Distinguished Professor of English – 45-year award
  • Mary Koss, Regents' Professor of Public Health – 30-year award
  • Michael Marcellin, Regents' Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering – 30-year award
  • Oscar Martinez, Regents' Professor of History – 30-year award
  • Thomas Miller, Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs – 30-year award
  • Mary Poulton, Director of the Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources – 30-year award
  • Joaquin Ruiz, Dean of the College of Science – 35-year award
  • Eduardo Sáez, University Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering – 20-year award
  • Pham Huu Tiep, Regents' Professor of Mathematics – 10-year award
  • Kendal Washington White, Dean of Students – 25-year award
  • Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine – 35-year award

During the ceremony, honorees will receive these gifts:

  • 10 years – Red or blue folding umbrella with the UA logo
  • 15 years – Set of four blue tumbler glasses with the UA logo
  • 20 years – Set of four stemless wineglasses with the UA logo
  • 25 years – Pitcher with the UA logo
  • 30 years – 9-inch square glass bowl with the UA logo
  • 35 years – Glass carafe with the UA logo
  • 40 years – Hand-crafted glass fluted bowl created by Fire Ranch Glass Works
  • 45 years – Hand-crafted glass egg created by Fire Ranch Glass Works

Honorees unable to attend the event can pick up their awards at the UA Visitor Center beginning May 1.
