Robbins: It's Not Too Late to Give to UA Cares Campaign
As the 2017 UA Cares campaign comes to a close, I would like to say again how honored I have been to serve as the campaign chair. Charitable giving is such an important means of community engagement, and I am very proud of the contributions UA employees make to organizations throughout Southern Arizona.
Since 2002, volunteers have helped the University raise $4.3 million in support of the community. Last year alone, staff and faculty committed 2,000 hours of volunteerism by making lunches for the homeless, feeding servicemen and women at Thanksgiving, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, holding chili cook-offs and bake sales, and a host of other acts of kindness throughout the year in support of nonprofits and University programs.
We've had some incredible successes this year: an anonymous donor has committed a $30,000 match so that every dollar you give equals a $2 donation to Arizona Assurance, a scholarship, mentoring, and student support program for first-generation students. This and other programs that UA Cares supports here on campus and throughout the community are tremendous sources of impact.
To date, we have recorded gifts totaling $185,000, and I know that figure will rise as we continue to process gifts. The online pledge form is available through Dec. 15, and it is never too late to start giving. I urge everyone to participate in this fantastic program, and I thank you for your commitment to the 2017 UA Cares campaign!
