For those who can't get away from the office to hear President Robert N. Shelton's State of the University address tomorrow, a live webcast will allow them to tune in to the speech on their desktops.

At 12:30 p.m., individuals on campus and beyond will be able to watch Shelton's address on Arizona Public Media's Web site.

The live webcast will make it possible to reach not only members of the main campus who are unable to attend but also members of the extended UA community, including those at UA South campus locations and the UA College of Medicine-Phoenix.

"People here want to know what's going on and want to have that connection in Tucson," said Al Bravo, associate director of public affairs for the College of Medicine's Phoenix campus, adding that this address will likely be of high interest in light of ongoing discussions of the UA Transformation Plan.

Bravo said that the more than 100 people on the Phoenix campus often don't hear important messages delivered from the main campus until after the fact, but the live webcast will provide an opportunity to listen in real time.

The webcast also will allow people outside the campus community, but with interests in the UA – such as researchers, prospective students or parents of current or prospective students – to tune in, said Hector Gonzalez, director of online and new media for Arizona Public Media.

This is the third year Arizona Public Media has provided a webcast for the address, Gonzalez said.

The webcast will remain on the site indefinitely for future viewings. The UA Channel, available on Cox Channel 116 and Comcast Channel 76 in Tucson, will also rebroadcast the speech throughout November. Confirmed broadcast times are Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. The text of the address will be available on the president's Web site.

For those who plan to attend the event in person, at the Student Union Memorial Center's Irving and Rose Levine Grand Ballroom, the schedule is as follows:

11:30 p.m. - Doors open to registered attendees
12:25 p.m. - Doors open to the general public (limited seating is available)
12:30 p.m. - Program begins
