UA's Biosphere 2 to Observe Earth Day, Anniversary in April
The University of Arizona will celebrate Earth Day and the 10th anniversary of UA research at Biosphere 2 with a day of activities including a sunset concert by Calexico on April 22.
In addition to regular tours and Saturday activities, this family-friendly event will include lectures and panel discussions on the future of the earth, energy, water and food; beach and rainforest tours; a ladybug release; and groundbreaking for a vertical farm complex.
The day will conclude with live music by the Tucson-based band Calexico. VIP tickets for the all-day special event and the Calexico concert are $32 each and include a Biosphere 2 annual pass.
Biosphere 2 is at 32540 S. Biosphere Road in Oracle, Arizona, about 30 minutes outside Tucson.
Earth Day schedule at Biosphere 2
9 a.m.-6 p.m.: Earth Day exhibitors' booths and presentations on the lawn
10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Presentations on the future of food, with speakers and demonstrations under the tent
10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Performances by Mark Freshwater, location to be determined
10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.: Scuba diving demonstrations at the Biosphere 2 ocean
10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.: Hermit crab releases every half hour at the Biosphere 2 ocean
12:30-2 p.m.: "What If?" presentations at the start of every guided tour in the lower habitat
1-4 p.m.: Panel discussions on earth, food, energy and water, including keynote address under the tent
4-4:30 p.m.: Civic Farms vertical farm groundbreaking in the west lung
4:30-6 p.m.: Sunset concert by Calexico
