Appointment of Mike Sistak as the Interim Senior Director of Federal Relations

Tim Bee, Vice President, Government and Community Relations
April 14, 2017

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Sistak as the Interim Senior Director of Federal Relations. His appointment will be effective on April 10.

In asking Mike to take this position, I aim to ensure that UA maintains its profile and engagement in Washington during this time of transition. This appointment will help ensure that Mike, Shannon, and Karla have the capacity to continue to provide to a high level of service to the university and our leadership.

In this role, Mike will utilize his five years of lobbying experience, and background in Congressional affairs and national political campaigns to lead our Washington office. Mike will also begin to develop a federal grassroots advocacy effort, mirrored on the successful implementation of the "AdvoCats" at the state government level, which has been recognized as a top three grassroots advocacy program in Arizona under his leadership. During this appointment, Mike will be splitting his time between Arizona and Washington.

Mike joined the UA in September 2015 following his employment as Government Affairs Director for the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. He additionally has worked in Washington at the Senate Armed Services Committee, and on several high profile political campaigns in Arizona and nationally. He received his BA in Political Science from the UA in 2008, and will obtain his MA in International Security Studies from the UA this year.
