If you made a New Year's resolution to get outside more, get in shape or get a better handle on your stress levels in 2017, then there's something for you in our monthly lineup of events happening at the UA.
Among the offerings are a free screening about the struggles and triumphs of six young entrepreneurs, a performance by Bernadette Peters, a walk through a campus garden and a 5K to raise funds for Diamond Children's Child Life Team at Banner – University Medical Center.

Free Film Screening: 'Generation Startup' | Jan. 18 [2]
Join the Arizona Center for Innovation and Tech Launch Arizona in a free screening of "Generation Startup." According to IMDB, the film takes viewers "to the front lines of entrepreneurship in America, capturing the struggles and triumphs of six recent college graduates who put everything on the line to build startups in Detroit. Shot over 17 months, it's an honest, in-the-trenches look at what it takes to launch a startup." The film runs for 93 minutes and admission is free. You can RSVP for the event here [3].
Performance – Bernadette Peters | Jan. 21 [4]
Bernadette Peters, Broadway singer and actress, is sure to give a memorable performance as part of UA Presents 2016-2017 season. Peters is known for her roles in "Annie," "Pennies From Heaven" and many other shows. She's also a recording artist and has appeared on several television shows, including "Ugly Betty," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Will and Grace." To read more about Peters, visit her website [5]. Coffee Walk at the Joseph Wood Krutch Garden on the UA Mall | Jan. 23 [7]
In the midst of a busy day, take a walk with Nature's Notebook, a national, online program where amateur and professional naturalists record observations of plants and animals to generate long-term data sets used for scientific discovery and decision-making. Observers of all levels are welcome. Coffee from EXO Roasters will be served, so bring a mug and a camera to take pictures of what's blooming. Lecture – 'Compassion and the Caregiver'| Jan. 25 [9]
Learn about ways to decrease fatigue and burnout, which can hit anyone who takes care of loved ones or patients. The discussion, headed by Mary-Frances O'Connor, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology [10], will explore some of the difficulties faced by caregivers and the cultivation of compassion as the overarching motivation for being a caregiver. The talk is part of the "Conversations on Compassion" lecture series presented by the UA Center for Compassion Studies [11] and sponsored by Tucson Medical Center's The Core. Wildcat to the Rescue Fun 5K | Jan. 28 [13]
Channel your inner superhero and help support the Diamond Children's Child Life Team at Banner – University Medical Center with a fun 5K where all are encouraged to participate. Proceeds will benefit the Child Life Team, which offers a healing environment where children can feel safe while receiving care at Banner – UMC. The race will start at Old Main with check-in at 3 p.m. The event is free to participants, with a suggested $10 donation.
