Academic Calendar Updates
Michael M. Brewer, Chair of the Faculty; Library Department Head, Research/Learning
Celeste F. Pardee, Assistant Director for Academic Policies/Organizations
At the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) meeting on April 6-7, 2017, a few changes were approved to the University of Arizona academic calendars, effective in spring 2018. The changes – requested by Vincent Del Casino, Vice Provost for Digital Learning/Student Engagement and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Enrollment Management – were approved by the Faculty Senate on February 6, 2017. The new Spring start dates, Spring Break, and Final Exam weeks have been posted to the UA Catalog Academic Calendars Website [1].
Rationale for these changes:
The one-week shift in Spring Break allows faculty to offer two uninterrupted 7.5-week sessions, which are consistent with the Fall and more conducive to effective learning.
The earlier start date for Spring 2019 reflects those of Spring 2018 and Spring 2020, in that the semester begins immediately after Winter Session.
The earlier end date for Spring 2019 provides ample time for two 7-week Summer Sessions.
Note: Please adjust the weekly schedule on your course syllabi for Spring 2018 classes accordingly.
