Appointment of Lois Eisenstein as Associate VP for Research Compliance & Policy
Leslie P. Tolbert, Ph.D., Senior Vice President for Research
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Lois Eisenstein as Associate Vice President for Research Compliance and Policy for the University. Her appointment will be effective January 28, 2013.
Lois received her J.D. degree from St. John’s University School of Law in New York. Before leaving New York, she held numerous positions at Viacom, including Senior Counsel for Viacom Television Enterprises, Senior Vice President for MTV Networks Law and Business Affairs, and General Counsel for Viacom’s Basic Cable Networks Division, where she managed an international team dealing with international laws regulating electronic media and intellectual property. She came to Tucson as a media law consultant, and then joined the UA in 2002, where she has served as a University Attorney in our Office of the General Counsel. In OGC, she has focused especially on issues related to research-affiliation and industry-sponsorship agreements, intellectual property, conflict of interest and commitment, and export control, interacting a great deal with units that report to me. Lois always brings great expertise and thoughtfulness to her work, and I am delighted that she now will be taking a leadership position in the Research Office.
As Associate V.P. for Research compliance and Policy, Lois will be responsible for leading a unified program of research compliance for the University and coordinating federally and locally mandated compliance in areas including human subjects protection, humane care and use of animal subjects, biosafety, chemical safety, radiation safety, export control, and management of conflict of interest and conflict of commitment. Proactive education and training of researchers in responsible conduct of research will be an area of special emphasis. I know that the UA’s research enterprise will benefit from her vision and leadership strengths. Please join me in welcoming her to the new position.
