Open Access Publishing Fund
October 19-23 is International Open Access Week and the University of Arizona encourages researchers to explore open access publishing alternatives. To raise awareness of the world-class research that comes out of the university, the University Libraries and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and Discovery have created a fund of $30,000 to cover author fees for publishing in open access journals [1].
The fund is for UA faculty, researchers, staff, post-docs and students publishing a peer-reviewed article within an open access journal. The journal must:
Be published by a member organization of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association [2] or adhere to its code of conduct [3].
Have a standard article fee schedule publicly posted.
Be listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals [4]. We may make an exception if the journal meets other criteria and the faculty advisory board verifies its credibility.
The fund covers author charges up to $3,000 per article. If the article is written with authors from other institutions, funding is prorated to cover UA authors only. Authors cannot have other funding already covering fees (e.g. grants, contracts, gifts). A faculty advisory board reviews and determines awards.
Once an article has been accepted for publication, the author may apply online [5].
