Please Submit Your Nominations for the 2014 Inclusive Excellence Awards by March 28, 2014
Raji Rhys, Assistant Vice President for Inclusive Excellence and Chief Diversity Officer, Executive Office of the President
I am pleased to launch the call for nominations for the Peter W. Likins 2014 Inclusive Excellence Awards. Forward your submissions recognizing faculty, staff and/or students who use diversity and inclusion as a means to spur cross-cutting innovations, engagement and excellence, as prioritized in the UA’s Never Settle academic and business plan neversettle.arizona.edu [1]. A small amount of your time can make a big impact by affirming the contributions of a worthy colleague. President Ann Weaver Hart will present recipients with their awards during a special reception in their honor on April 18.
Nominations are accepted for individuals, teams and organizations who go beyond their assigned duties to make exemplary contributions through activities such as one or more of the following:
- Recruitment and retention of an excellent and diverse faculty, staff or student body;
- Fostering equality of opportunity within our campus community;
- Encouraging diverse perspectives on our campus;
- Creating a welcoming and supportive campus climate through efforts such as visibility, communication and education; and
- Other areas critical to establishing inclusive excellence at The University of Arizona.
People often say that the diversity of our campus community is one of the best aspects of working and learning at the UA. If you have a hard time narrowing down whom to nominate for an IEA, please keep in mind you can submit one nomination for each category: faculty, staff, and student. Your nomination can be individual or a team/organization. Specific examples of outstanding contributions are critical to strong nominations. Incomplete or late nominations will not be accepted. Helpful tips and a checklist to ensure your nomination is complete are available with the nomination forms and complete criteria at diversity.arizona.edu/inclusive-excellence-awards-application-guidelines [2]. If you have questions, you may also contact Jacquelyn Valenzuela, Administrative Associate, Programs for Inclusive Excellence, at 520-626-8080 or javalenzuela@email.arizona.edu [3].
You have the ability to make a big difference for one or more of your colleagues, so please consider nominating a faculty, staff or student [individual or official campus organization] for an IEA no later than Friday, March 28, 2014.
