Adobe Connect to Replace BlackBoard Collaborate

Office of Instruction and Assessment (OIA)
August 21, 2015

The University of Arizona has acquired an enterprise license for Adobe® Connect™ to be the University’s new online meeting tool, as a result of an RFP process. Adobe Connect will replace the current BlackBoard Collaborate service effective August 31, 2015.

Adobe Connect’s web conferencing application provides the delivery of real-time online meetings with tools specifically designed for the educational experience. You can create a virtual environment for sharing presentations, images, and desktop applications with remote participants. Additional features include audio and videoconferencing, text chat, a digital whiteboard, polling, and breakout rooms for small group work. More information about Adobe Connect is available at:

Adobe Connect is being deployed on campus in two phases. The service is currently available for use in the University of Arizona's online course management tool, Desire2Learn (D2L). To get started using Adobe Connect in D2L click here. Adobe Connect will be available to all university faculty and staff outside of a course management system in October 2015. Registration information and documentation will be available on the Office of Instruction and Assessment website prior to the launch.

Important information for faculty
Faculty who currently have video content on BlackBoard Collaborate will need to move the content and archive it before August 31. Instructions for archiving content and uploading it to Panopto are available here. It is recommended that faculty upload archived content into Panopto so students can continue to access it after the upgrade to Adobe Connect.

Additional faculty support resources are available through the Office of Instruction and Assessment. Contact Dwight Farris at or 626-9913.

Contact the 24/7 IT Support Center for questions and assistance with Adobe Connect at or call (520) 626-TECH (8324).

Adobe Connect has a wide range of online tutorials available to assist you. Visit their website to access support guides and manuals.
