Subject: Apply for $2,200 stipend for NEH Summer Institute
Date: Feb 15, 2021

Dear K-12 Educators:

You’re invited to apply to our summer virtual institute for educators (grades K-12) named "We The People: Migrant Waves in the Making of America."

The institute is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and will be held virtually. The institute will be held June 21-July 2, 2021. A stipend of $2200 will be provided to each summer scholar.

We developed "We The People" in an effort to reframe our national discourse about the ways in which we see and talk about migration in our history. Leading experts and award-winning scholars will contribute to our NEH Institute, a two-week live online virtual professional opportunity for K-12 educators, hosted by the University of Arizona and Worlds of Words Center of Global Literacies and Literatures. Through children’s, young adult, and adult literature, historical records, artifacts and film, participants will explore the stories, histories and contributions of underrepresented groups to U.S history. Participants will also interact with visiting scholars and children’s and young adult authors to learn from their processes of research.

We believe it is important, especially for young adults and children, to understand and recognize the continuity of movement of people in U.S. history, the Indigenous past and present of the land, and the long history of many places, including Arizona, which predate their incorporation into the United States.

We invite you to submit your complete application BEFORE the deadline, which is March 1, 2021. A committee, which includes teachers and professors, will be evaluating each applicant’s eligibility and application materials submission.

We look forward to reviewing your complete e-application before the deadline. Apply here.

The notification letters for all applicants will be sent, via email, by March 26, 2021. We look forward to receiving your e-application soon.
