April's Object of the Month at the Arizona State Museum

Arizona State Museum
April 2, 2013

April’s Object of the Month in Native Goods, the Arizona State Museum store, is this Mata Ortiz pot by Jesus Lozano (5.5X5”). Originally $368, it can be yours for just $258 through the end of the month. Compound discounts not available.

Mata Ortiz pottery has developed over the last half century from humble pieces influenced by the prehistoric pottery found in the area into a world-renowned art form. Jesus Lozano is a very well-regarded potter from the small village in Chihuahua, Mexico. Jesus and his brother, renowned potter Ruben Lozano, are known for artistic innovations. On this vessel, Jesus has mixed intricate painting on the bottom half with deeply carved patterns on the top half.
