Campus Health Launches New Suicide Prevention Website

Campus Health
April 4, 2022

The University of Arizona Campus Health Service proudly announces the launch of a completely revamped and reimagined Suicide Prevention website, designed to give everyone in the campus community practical tools to help prevent suicide. This website enhances our efforts to address the increasing national rates of depression, anxiety and mental health struggles among college students. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young adults. Here at the University of Arizona, 13% of students seriously considered suicide and 1% of students attempted suicide in the past 12 months (Campus Health’s 2021 Health & Wellness Survey).

We all know that supporting mental health is essential to college students' success. Suicide prevention is one way we can do that. This website offers timely and actionable ways anyone can help, with guidance from professionals at Campus Health’s Counseling & Psych Services (CAPS). Everyone can be part of suicide prevention, whether you're a beginner or expert, a student or faculty member, family member or friend.

On the site, you will learn how to:

  • Talk thoughtfully about mental health and suicide
  • Recognize suicide warning signs
  • Ask someone if they are thinking about suicide
  • Get involved in suicide prevention on campus
  • Help others and yourself with mental health
  • Support survivors of suicide attempts and suicide loss
  • Use and recommend suicide prevention and support resources, including free suicide prevention trainings on campus
  • And more

We all want to prevent suicide. Each conversation you have, each resource you learn about, and each change you make in your everyday interactions makes an impact.
