Dear UA Campus Community,

The College of Fine Arts recently announced the unexpected passing of Dennis L. Jones. Many of you have known Dennis through his various administrative and leadership roles on campus, and we invite you to a celebration of his life on Monday, April 8th, 5:00-7:00 pm at the UA Museum of Art.

Dennis Jones joined the School of Art as a faculty member and director of the 3D studies program in 1983. He held an additional role of director of graduate studies (1993 – 1999), then served as Interim Dean of the Graduate College. He was appointed Director of the School of Art (2002-2014) and Interim Director of the UA Museum of Art (2012-2014). He retired on May 25, 2015, after 32 years of dedicated service to the University of Arizona.

As an artist, Dennis completed many large-scale public sculpture commissions at the Cleveland Clinic, Steelcase Corporation, Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona State University Art Museum, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson Museum of Art, UA Museum of Art, UA Cancer Research Center, UA College of Law, and UA Steward Observatory, to name a few. Jones received the prestigious Governor's Art Award from the State of Arizona in 1985. His iconic, highly reflective stainless steel works matched his character: larger than life and highly polished. He will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
