Change in Reporting Line for Office of Regional Development, Outreach and Global Initiatives

To: UA Community

From:

Andrew Comrie, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

Subject: Change in Reporting Line for Office of Regional Development, Outreach and Global Initiatives

Date: May 21, 2013

The Office of the Vice President for Regional Development, Outreach and Global Initiatives currently oversees the Outreach College, UA South in its various locations, the Office of Global Initiatives, and several outreach programs throughout the state. As these functions have grown, it has become clear that while historically viewed as auxiliary to the main campus enterprise, these activities have evolved to become more central to the UA's core academic mission.

Accordingly, I am pleased to announce that the Office of the VP and its units will report to the Office of the Provost. In addition, given the rapidly evolving global and online/distance dimensions of higher education, we need to better position these functions to influence creative programmatic opportunities more broadly across campus. We look forward to leveraging this change and potential new alignments as the UA's strategic plan unfolds.
