Subject: Cmdr. Keith Brittain Appointed UAPD Assistant Chief of Police

Date: June 30, 2014

I am pleased to announce that Cmdr. Keith Brittain has accepted my offer to serve as the UAPD Assistant Chief of Police. His appointment is effective Monday, July 7, 2014.

I have had the opportunity to review the comments from the constituency groups. I have also spoken with several community members who noted that the candidates were extremely well qualified and that they did not envy me having to make the final choice. I cannot agree with them more; this was indeed a difficult decision.

Assistant Chief Brittain brings a unique insight to this position, having served the UAPD in every existing rank. He began his career as a student Community Service Officer and then a dispatcher, and he has risen through the ranks to Commander. As Assistant Chief, he will be responsible for the administrative oversight of the Field Operations and Operations Support Divisions and will serve as Acting Chief in my absence. This position will bring a needed consistency to our organization's day-to-day operations.

I have asked Lt. Jason Brei to serve as the Acting Operations Support Division Commander until the new Commander is appointed. He has accepted this temporary assignment.

This is an extremely exciting time for the department and the University and I look forward to working with all of the department leaders as we continue to develop the UAPD's management team.
