Exciting changes are underway at the Chemistry building to create additional innovative classroom spaces while preserving the exterior structure of this beautiful, historical building.

Over the next year, we will be renovating and repurposing the original, 1930s-era building. This project is part of the University of Arizona's commitment to improve and innovate classrooms in convenient, central campus locations. (Find more information on the Planning, Design and Construction website.)

The central location of the building also means there will be disruption on the Mall, in the heart of campus.

Demolition started inside the building after graduation in May and has progressed over the summer. Now more extensive demolition and construction requires the project site to be expanded on August 17 to include the south lane of University Boulevard between Old Main and Highland Avenue. Bikes, pedestrians, golf carts and service vehicles will be required to detour to other routes through December 2022.
