International Education Week is an annual celebration of international education put on by the U.S. Department of State and spearheaded at the University of Arizona by UA Global. This year, IEW is November 12-16, and one of our cornerstone events is the annual Global Excellence Awards. These awards recognize students and faculty for their commitment to international education. We are excited to announce the call for nominations for our 2018 awards. I strongly encourage you all to nominate people and/or share this call with your colleagues from across campus, the nomination deadline is next Thursday, October 25. The awards nomination form is here.

The three awards are as follows:

Excellence in Global Education

Eligibility: Eligible nominees would include faculty, instructors (K-adult), staff and administrators or others who have a lengthy and outstanding record of working with international students (see criteria below).

Criteria: The recipient is an individual who:

  • Furthered the cause of international education in a significant way through outstanding commitment and contributions to international education
  • Significantly fostered, encouraged and enhanced international education and exchange through long-term efforts
  • Substantially assisted, taught or otherwise worked with international students to enrich their experience

Excellence in Global Service

Eligibility: Eligible nominees include UA faculty or staff, or members of the Tucson community (see criteria below).

Criteria: The recipient is an individual who:

  • Has been a substantial positive force in the international exchange of culture, knowledge and ideas
  • Created or provided an outstanding service internationally with significant economic, social or cultural benefits
  • Demonstrated significant bridge building between cultures
  • Greatly facilitated international understanding through international activity in a highly significant way
  • Produced a significant positive effect on international understanding through presentations, cultural activities or exchange programs

Student Award for Global Excellence

Eligibility: Individual UA students or student groups who have produced a substantial impact in the areas of international education or international service (see criteria below).

Criteria: The recipient is an individual student or student group which has done some of the following:

  • Furthered the cause of international education in a significant way through outstanding commitment and contributions to international education
  • Personally made an impact that has helped to  internationalize the UA Campus, or represented the University in a commendable/ outstanding way by providing noteworthy service internationally while enrolled at the UA
  • Demonstrated significant bridge building between cultures
  • Greatly facilitated international understanding through international activity in a highly significant way
  • Produced a significant positive effect on international understanding through presentations, cultural activities or exchange programs
