During this year's closure period, we will be turning off the heat in buildings that will not be used during the closure. Utility functions relative to the closure will begin mid-afternoon on Dec. 23 and be restored to normal function by the beginning of business on Dec. 31. Facilities Management, as well as campus administration, is committed to the success of the closure period, saving the University valuable dollars in utility expenditures.
It is imperative that everyone take a serious look at the need to have their building heated during the shutdown. FM has no way of determining the critical needs for the various departments and colleges. Building managers from these areas need to fill out the Closure Waiver form if they want to be exempt from this year's closure. If you see a need to have a waiver for this closure period, please contact the building manager responsible for your area. These requests are due on or before Dec. 12. Use this link to access the NetID login. After you submit an exemption request, it will be reviewed and you will receive an email informing you when the request has been approved. When entering the wavier, please submit only one building per request.
Building power and water will NOT be turned off during the closure. However it is imperative for building occupants to turn off all possible lighting and electrical equipment. The utilities that will be adjusted are for comfort, such as heating and cooling.
