Subject: Important Safety Information for the Fall 2014 Semester

Date: September 2, 2014

We often receive inquiries from members of the University community asking about specific policies and procedures in place for responding to and dealing with such issues as:

  • disruptive behavior in classrooms;
  • threatening behavior by students;
  • issues of threatening, intimidating, or violent behavior;
  • illegal or threatening behavior by the public;
  • bomb threats or suspicious packages; and
  • an armed individual or active shooter.

As the fall semester begins, we want to remind you that the UA Police Department provides a number of crime prevention programs designed to help students, staff, and faculty enhance their personal and workplace security. To schedule a program, contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 520-626-8007.

We also want to offer you a few resources and reminders and have attached a summary of key issues with specific information about policies and procedures. If you are a faculty member or teaching assistant, we encourage you to take a few minutes to review this information with the students in your classes. We ask those of you who have management responsibilities to share this information with the people in your respective divisions and departments.

Do Not Hesitate to Ask for Help
Remember, if you observe or experience a violent or hostile situation, please call 9-1-1 immediately or as soon as it is safe to do so.
