Each semester, there are over 5,000 D2L course sites requested to teach for-credit courses. When instructors log in to their new course site, it is a blank canvas, full of possibilities. But many of us feel a sense of apprehension when we see that blank canvas. How can I make my course simple to use for students and myself? What if I don’t have an instructional designer to help me build my course?

It was with this in mind that we built Course Maker

UArizona Course Maker is a design system with the goal of empowering everyone who develops courses in D2L to create cohesive and customizable digital learning experiences.

Course Maker allows you to choose from ready-to-use page templates, customize your page using individual building blocks or build your own page from scratch using the page builder tool. Course Maker is quick, consistent, customizable, easy and impactful:

Quick

  • The foundation of the Course Maker is the Starter Kit, which can be used as-is right out of the box. No technical skills or prior experience required.

Consistent

  • Integrated student resources, best practice tips and flexible cohesive designs mean you can spend more time focused on your course content.

Customizable

  • You can also select from various design options to easily customize your course site to reflect better your unique course content, teaching style or personality.

Easy

  • Select from common Page Templates, create your custom pages using the drag-and-drop Page Builder Tool or update existing pages one element at a time from the Building Blocks.

Impactful

  • In short, Course Maker makes building course sites easier for instructors and improves the learning experience for students.

Whether you use D2L daily to deliver your courses or only design once a year, Course Maker is for you. We invite you to check out the site and give it a try!
