June 23 UAConnect365 Changes: New Employees, Instant Messaging, Forwards

Subject: June 23 UAConnect365 Changes: New Employees, Instant Messaging, Forwards

Date: June 8, 2017

On June 23, University Information Technology Services will make changes to three services associated with UAConnect accounts, as part of the migration to UAConnect365:

  • All new employee email accounts will be created in UAConnect365.
  • All UAConnect Instant Messaging accounts will be migrated to UAConnect365.
  • The Self-Service Email Forwarding tool will be disabled.

New Employee Email Accounts

As of June 23, all new employee email accounts will be created in the new UAConnect365 email system. This date will ensure the least disruption for new hires coming on in the new fiscal year.

  • New hires who create a NetID before June 23 will need to go through the migration process from UAConnect to UAConnect365.
  • New hires who create a NetID after June 23 and who work in a department that has not migrated yet will be on a different email system than their coworkers. They will not be able to have Send On Behalf Of and other email/calendaring delegation rights with their coworkers until all of them are migrated.
  • Student workers who get a Catworks account will get a UAConnect365 account with email, calendar, and IM.

Instant Messaging (IM)

On June 23, UITS will migrate all Instant Messaging accounts at once from the current system to the UAConnect365 system. This will ensure all IM users across campus will retain the ability to message each other.

  • Mac users who use Lync for IM should update on June 23 to Skype for Business on Mac, which is available for download inside Office 365 (portal.office.com). Lync does not work with NetID+, required for UAConnect365.
  • After June 23 and after your mailbox migrates to UAConnect365, you can use IM online by logging in to Office 365 (portal.office.com) and clicking the Mail tile. There will be a Skype icon on the upper right menu bar.
  • All IM users, online or with desktop software, will need a NetID password created/changed after March 6, 2017 and NetID+ in order to use IM after the June 23 IM migration.

Self-Service Email Forwarding

On June 23, UITS will be closing its self-service email forwarding web tool for UAConnect. After your account migrates to UAConnect365, you can start, stop, or change a forward in the forwarding option in Office 365 Settings. By default, mail forwarded from UAConnect365 is not retained as a copy, but this can be changed.

For those still on UAConnect:

  • Make forwarding changes before June 23 at forward.uaconnect.arizona.edu. If your account has a forward on it at the time of migration, the forward will be automatically migrated as well.
  • If you need to create or change a forward after June 23, you can do it in Office 365 after your email migrates, or you can contact the 24/7 IT Support Center and ask that a ticket be submitted with your request.
