Subject: Listserv service ending January 30

Date: January 10, 2013

University Information Technology Services (UITS) has replaced Listserv with a new email list service powered by Sympa software: http://uits.arizona.edu/services/email-lists. The new software offers numerous benefits, including an easier-to-use website, improved security, auto-updating class lists, and faster list creation.

UITS will be retiring Listserv January 30, 2013.

What this means for Listserv owners:

  • All Listservs that are currently in use need to be migrated to Sympa prior to January 30.
  • All Listserv archives that need to be saved should be downloaded from the Listserv website prior to January 30.

Step-by-step instructions are available to help owners migrate Listserv lists to Sympa at http://uits.arizona.edu/services/email/email-lists/help/migrating. For questions about archives, please contact the 24/7 IT Support Center at 626-TECH (8324).

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Listserv owners can log in to the migration assistant website (http://migrate.list.arizona.edu) to check the status of their current lists.
  • Any lists belonging to that owner that have not been migrated will show up in red in the left column.
  • If the list is no longer in use, it will simply disappear when the server retires.
  • If the list is in use, it should be migrated to the new system.

Listserv subscribers who receive an email from a “listserv.arizona.edu” email address can contact the Listserv’s owner and remind them to migrate to the new system before January 30. Email a Listserv owner by adding “-request” to the address: <listname>-request@listserv.arizona.edu.

Contact the 24/7 IT Support Center for assistance:

  • If a Listserv no longer has a UA faculty or staff owner
  • If a Listserv has a name shorter than 3 letters
  • With any questions about or issues with Listserv, archives, migration, or Sympa
