Subject: Marc Miller Appointed as Interim Law Dean
Date: November 1, 2012

I am delighted to announce that Prof. Marc Miller has agreed to serve as Dean of the James E. Rogers College of Law on an interim basis, effective November 1, 2012. As the Ralph W. Bilby Professor of Law, Prof. Miller is a nationally-recognized legal scholar and he brings that insight and expertise to the deanship.  He also brings his previous administrative experience as the Vice Dean of the College.  I know that he will bring his passion and energy to the position and will get to work immediately.  With its high level of scholarship, the faculty of the James E. Rogers College of Law plays a vital role in the intellectual life of the University of Arizona.

I am also very happy to announce that Regents’ Professor Emeritus and Provost Emeritus George Davis has agreed to chair the search committee that will be recruiting internal and external candidates to serve as dean.  Prof. Davis has chaired two previous searches for deans of the College and he is also a Distinguished Honorary Alumnus of the College.

On behalf of the University, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to outgoing Dean Larry Ponoroff for his leadership of the College.  Please join me in congratulating Dean Miller on his appointment.  I look forward to working with him to build on the considerable strengths of the James E. Rogers College of Law as we move forward.
