Three Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why should Career Conversations be completed between April and June?

The University did not previously have a common date for completing Career Conversations. Employees have said that the lack of a time frame creates uncertainty, and Career Conversations don't always happen. The April-June window provides many benefits, such as:

  • Accommodates both academic and fiscal year timelines.
  • Establishes the expectation for employees and supervisors for an annual process.
  • Allows for tools and resources to be developed and shared with you.
  • Streamlines communications sent to your inbox.
  • Beginning in 2022: Enables easier tracking of completion rates (through UAccess).

2. If I already completed a Career Conversation this year, do I have to do it again?

No. If you already completed a Career Conversation in 2021, simply start with the new form and timeline next year.

3. When we complete Career Conversations within the new April-June time frame, what period should we be reviewing?

Career Conversations are meant to review the past 12 months. So if you have Career Conversations in May, you would review May 2020-May 2021. If you conduct Career Conversations in June, you would review June 2020-June 2021.
