New Funding for Lactation Spaces

Subject: New Funding for Lactation Spaces
Date: Jan 18, 2022

In support of the University’s commitment to being a family-friendly place to work, learn, and grow, funding is available to increase lactation spaces on campus (includes all campus locations throughout Arizona). Lactation spaces are currently being added in high traffic campus areas such as the University Services Building, McKale Center, and the Administration Building. In addition, colleges, departments or units can apply for funding. Funds can be used to convert an existing space (e.g., an office, storage room, or study space) into a lactation room or to purchase a lactation pod, such as a Mamava pod. This funding has been made available as one of President Robbins' family friendly initiatives.

How to Apply

The head of a college, department, or unit must endorse the application, but a different contact person may submit the application. The Building Manager must be notified. Units are encouraged to collaborate with each other as appropriate.

The Lactation Space Application Form must be completed by Wednesday, March 16, 2022. A committee of diverse stakeholders, including student parents, faculty members, and subject matter experts from Life & Work Connections, Facilities Management, Planning, Design & Construction, and Disability Resources, will review applications and recommend funding awards based on the following evaluation criteria:

  • Lack of availability of lactation space in the building or area. Check the Family Resource Map for lactation spaces in your area.

  • The number of employees, students, and visitors served by the building or area of campus.

  • The nature of work or services provided in the building or area, if applicable (e.g., a building where parents receive services).

  • The unit’s ability to contribute funding towards the lactation space. This is not a requirement and all units are encouraged to apply. Funding is limited, so unit contributions will help increase the number of lactation spaces and pods that can be added to campus.

Funding decisions will be communicated in April 2022.
