This summer, UA students can learn, explore, beat the heat, and earn credits at Prescott College.

During the summer program, which starts July 8 and ends Aug. 7, students will take three courses, earn seven credits, and have a fantastic experience with UA teachers and fellow students. The program is available to all UA students.

The three courses in the program are:

  • GEOG 170A1: Earth's Environment: Introduction to Physical Geography
  • AIS 220: Contemporary American Indian Issues
  • GEOG 397D: Field Study in Geography Workshop

Students will engage in fieldwork tied to the classes and take excursions to nearby points of interest, including the Grand Canyon, archaeological sites, Native American reservations, and northern Arizona's incomparable national forests. Each weekend includes field course excursions of varying lengths.

Prescott, located 100 miles northwest of Phoenix and 100 miles southwest of Flagstaff, is a pleasant, prosperous, and historic desert mountain city. Prescott is also located with easy access to towns and sites in northern Arizona, including the arts town of Sedona and the Coconino, Prescott, and Tanto National Forests. Students can enjoy the milder temperatures – typical highs in July are in the mid-80s with lows in the 50s – and participate in a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking and biking.

Housing is provided at The Village at Prescott College, a townhouse style, LEED Platinum facility, with free access to Prescott College's library, cafeteria, and other facilities. The cost of the program – which includes tuition and fees, room and board, and excursions – is $5,975.
