Subject: New Zoom Feature – University Phone Calls

Date: July 28, 2021

The University is adding a new feature to your Zoom app – a phone service that will let you call other University employees directly from Zoom.

The phone feature will be enabled Saturday, July 31.

On July 31, you will receive an email with a link to log in and complete some basic information. See Setting Up Zoom Phone.

The next time you launch your Zoom app:

  • You will see "Phone" in the menu bar at the top.
  • You will be able to make and receive phone calls to/from other campus extensions on your desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet.

GETTING ZOOM

Zoom Phone is available to University faculty, staff, student workers, emeritus and DCCs who have a University of Arizona Zoom meeting account as of July 16. If you do not yet have a University of Arizona Zoom account, one is created for you the first time you log in at the Arizona Zoom portal.

  • Those who create a University Zoom account after July 16 will get Zoom Phone added August 2, or the Wednesday following their account creation.
  • See The Zoom Application page for information on downloading and logging into the app where you will use Zoom Phone.

ABOUT THE ZOOM PHONE PROJECT

Zoom Phone includes benefits such as:

  • Ability to move between desktop app and mobile app during a call and to easily switch from an audio call to a videoconference.
  • Easily transferring callers to another extension.
  • Voicemail file with recording and transcript also sent to your email.
  • Forwarding to another extension while away.

At this time, Zoom Phone will not be able to place 911 calls. This feature will be added in a future update.

Enabling calls within the University with Zoom Phone is the first phase in updating our outdated phone system and modernizing our communications technologies.
