Subject: Nominations Needed for Residency Classification Review Committee
Date: Jun 08, 2020

The Residency Classification Office is seeking volunteers to work with other members of our campus community to ensure all students receive a fair residency classification decision. Members of the Classification Review Committee may include representatives from faculty, administration, staff, professionals and the student body, and are appointed by the president for a term of one fiscal year. If you are interested in expanding your skills and knowledge of the residency classification policy, please consider nominating yourself, students or members of your staff.

Students who have been classified as non-residents by the Statement of Residency Classification (SORC) process and by a residency classification officer may pursue a formal review by the committee. The review committee renders a residency classification decision in accordance with Arizona state statutes and Board of Regents policy for determining tuition status. Committees consist of at least three and preferably five voting members.

Prior to each review, a committee chair is designated at the time that a committee is formed to hear an appeal. Committee members are strongly encouraged to meet (in person or via teleconference) at least once before the hearing. Hearings are scheduled for up to 45 minutes. Volunteers for the committee receive training and are asked to serve on approximately 3-4 hearings per semester.

If you are interested in becoming a member or making a nomination for the Residency Classification Review Committee, please email the following information to reg-rco@email.arizona.edu by June 18, 2020:

  • Your name or the name of the person(s) you are nominating.
  • Your position or that of the person(s) you are nominating.
  • A personal reference from the nominee's supervisor (or personal reference from a University of Arizona associate if you are a student) .

The ABOR policy guiding the review process can be found online.

Thank you for your consideration.
