Subject: Proposed Intellectual Property Policy Available for Comment

Date: July 22, 2014

The University of Arizona Intellectual property policy is subject to revision.

While a few substantive changes are proposed, the majority of the edits focus on making the IP Policy more approachable and understandable, more clear and concise, and more logical in terms of organization and structure.

The revised policy is available for your review at There, you’ll find links to:

  • A summary of the proposed changes to the IP Policy
  • An FAQ about the UA IP Policy
  • The complete text for the proposed UA IP Policy (latest draft, May 19, 2014)

The IP Committee, the Office of General Counsel and Tech Launch Arizona have participated in this process. The IP Committee reviewed the existing policy and proposed changes, which were integrated in collaboration with OCG and TTA.  Once the IP Committee approved the changes, it was presented to the President’s Cabinet, who decided to move it forward to the Faculty Senate. This final group reconvenes in September.

Our goal is to use these intervening weeks to fully vet the policy and ensure that it is ready when the Faculty Senate gathers to review and approve the revised policy.

Please submit your comments at We look forward to hearing from you.
