The Division of Human Resources is proposing revisions to three current University policies, which will increase fairness and clarify current practices. The following three policies are currently in a 30-day review and comment period to collect input from University employees and affected individuals prior to potential enactment:

Paid Parental Leave – Recognizing that returning to work does not always work out for new parents, this policy revision reduces the 90-day requirement time for an employee to work after paid parental leave to 30 days of work. We've received several requests from departments that want to support new parents who are struggling to balance work and parenthood.

Ineligibility for Reemployment or Professional Affiliation – This policy has been revised to add Designated Campus Colleagues (affiliates, associates, and volunteers) to the list of individuals who may be barred from returning to perform work or service for the UA as a result of a serious policy violation. In addition, former employees who are ineligible for rehire may not return to the UA in an affiliate, associate, or volunteer status.

Compassionate Transfer of Leave – In an effort to increase fairness to access and reduce administrative complexity, this policy revision would fund compassionate leave with vacation hours that would otherwise be forfeited at the end of the year. The proposed revisions also clarify eligibility requirements and limit the hours that may be received per condition per year.

The proposed revisions, along with policy impact statements summarizing the effect of these revisions, can be viewed on the University Policy website. To provide input, complete the "Feedback" field at the bottom of the policy template or use the "Contact Us/Feedback" link in the website navigation bar. All input will be compiled and presented to University senior leadership prior to a final decision on enacting these policy changes.
