PTS HR Administrator receives PHR designation
Shaun Wolfel, UA Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) Hiring & Employee Relations Administrator, received the PHR certification by successfully completing the PHR exam in July 2013. The exam measures how well a candidate can apply their HR knowledge and experience.
Wolfel said: “The PHR certification elevates the status of PTS at the UA. I am very proud to have earned this high honor. PHR is the gold standard of educational achievement in the HR industry.â€
PHR is a professional certification that demonstrates mastery of "core HR principles". The certification is done through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) who has a strategic partnership with SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management). HRCI has minimum requirements of education and years of practice in the HR area that applicants must meet in order to be eligible to take the exam.
The content of the exam is split into six areas; Business Management and Strategy, Workforce Planning and Employment, Human Resource Development, Compensation and Benefits, Employee and Labor Relations and Risk Management. The questions are structured so that one must translate or interpret a concept, base answers on working knowledge and past experience, and be familiar enough with the HR principles and Federal law in order to solve real-life problems, and make connections to distantly related elements with "accuracy and consistent logic".
This certification requires continuing education in order to ensure that professionals remain current on HR laws and standards, and re-certify every 3 years. In the University's main Human Resources department, many of the key professionals, including the VP, Director of HR, and the organization consultants hold a certification through HRCI.
Congratulations to Shaun! More information about the PHR program may be found at: http://www.hrci.org/HRCertification.aspx?id=2147483768.
