Congratulations to our very own Gil Ribak, associate professor of Judaic studies, who has been awarded two separate fellowships for the next year (2021-2022). Gil received the Marie S. Curie FRIAS COFUND Senior Fellowship (FCFP). This fellowship is co-funded by the European Union and the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. He will spend eight months at the Freiburg Institute for Advance Studies (FRIAS), at the University of Freiburg. The Marie S. Curie Fellowship at FRIAS is intended for current or future leaders in their fields. The fellowships are awarded through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process. Gil will use the time at FRIAS to complete the research (at two archives in Southwest Germany) and hopefully write the bulk of the manuscript of his second book, which examines the representation of Black people in Yiddish culture. The second fellowship is a five-month research grant by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, which he hopes to use in the summer and fall of 2022. A private German foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation concentrates its support on the historical humanities. The purpose of this grant is to allow him to complete his research at a couple of archives in New York City and dedicate most of the time to writing the manuscript of his second book.
