Revision of Personnel Policies in the University Handbook for Appointed Personnel

Dear Colleagues:

We are initiating the process of soliciting input from campus on the revisions of the personnel chapters in the University Handbook for Appointed Personnel (UHAP). UHAP Chapters 3, 4, and 5 have been revised by a committee that included faculty, administrators, continuing professionals and other appointed personnel as well as representatives from our offices and the Office of the General Counsel.  The revisions have been made to align our appointed personnel manual with recent changes in the ABOR Policy Manual and with several Faculty-Senate approved reforms.  The revisions also address some inconsistencies in our policies and practices, and will generally improve the usability of UHAP.

These revisions have been undertaken to implement several reforms that have been approved by the Faculty Senate, most notably in criteria for promotion, tenure and continuing status and in provisions for nontenure-eligible faculty.  Faculty and other appointed professional leaders have been involved in the revisions throughout the process.  Over the next several weeks, members of the committee will be meeting with various stakeholder groups.  Those formal consultations will conclude with a presentation in the Faculty Senate on May 5.  Feedback is welcome on the proposed revisions.  You should email your suggestions for improvements to the Chair of the UHAP revisions subcommittee, Vicki Gotkin, at vickig@email.arizona.edu
