Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs & Human Resources

Subject: Smoking and Tobacco Policy Revision

Date: April 13, 2017

Electronic smoking devices, including e-cigarettes, are now among the tobacco products that may not be used on the University of Arizona campuses or in UA vehicles. The E-Cigarette Policy Review Task Force*, a group of experts in medical and health-related fields assembled at President Hart’s request, recommended this change to the Smoking & Tobacco Policy, and the UA has adopted the task force's recommendation following review and public comment.

The University is preparing updated signage and educational efforts ahead of full implementation of the revised policy, beginning with Fall Semester 2017.

Resources are available at tobaccofree.arizona.edu for University community members who want help quitting tobacco. The website also provides resources to raise awareness and education about the policy such as posters, temporary signs and information cards. University community members can also utilize the LiveSafe app to anonymously report smoking and tobacco use to UAPD. LiveSafe has a number of other useful safety features and can be found in the Google Play and Apple app stores.
