Subject: Traffic Alert: Campbell Avenue traffic switch north and south of Broadway Blvd
Date: Feb 05, 2021

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at approximately 4 a.m., northbound and southbound traffic on Campbell Avenue will be shifted to the east side of the roadway north and south of Broadway. This traffic shift will allow work crews to install a new underground water line through the Campbell Avenue and Broadway intersection.

Crews will begin installing the water line on the west side of the intersection (southbound travel lanes). This work will take approximately one day as crews will work day and night to expedite the work. When the water line work reaches the east side of the intersection (northbound travel lanes), northbound and southbound traffic on Campbell Avenue will be shifted to the west side of the roadway north and south of Broadway. This shift is anticipated to take place at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021.

This water line work is scheduled to be complete on Saturday, February 20, 2021, and northbound and southbound traffic will return to its original configuration. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

During the work, two travel lanes in each direction on Campbell Avenue will be open. Left turns will be prohibited for motorists traveling northbound and southbound from Campbell Avenue to Broadway. Electronic message boards are in place to advise the traveling public of this traffic shift.

The Broadway Improvement Project from Euclid Avenue to Country Club Road began in January 2020. The project includes widening the roadway to six travel lanes, landscaped medians, buffered bike lanes, sidewalks, multiple HAWK pedestrian crossings, and bus pullouts. A new underground storm drain system will be constructed throughout the project limits. The project is scheduled to be complete in the Fall 2021.

The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.2 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Broadway West Improvement project is part of the RTA plan and is managed by The City of Tucson. For more information, visit RTAmobility.com.
